Nancy Starczyk was installed recently as the 2009 president of the Southland Regional Association of Realtors®' Santa Clarita Valley Division.

Realtor® Mike Davis took the oath of office as the president-elect, which means he is in line to lead the Santa Clarita Valley Division in 2010.

Hundreds turned out for the annual installation gala and to honor leaders within the local real estate community.

Professionals singled out for special awards includes:

* Phyllis Grekin was tapped as the 2008 Member of the Year,

* Stephen Tako was awarded the Affiliate of the Year honor

* And Laura Langen was selected to receive the annual President's Award.

The leadership of the 2009 Santa Clarita Valley Division Council consists of:

  • Nancy Starczyk, president,
  • Mike Davis, president-elect 2010, and MLS chair;
  • Jennifer Getz, government affairs chair
  • Mary McCormick, special events chair
  • Debbie Hawkins, Sparks of Love chair
  • Phyllis Grekin, Sunshine chair
  • Andy Walter
  • Jane Rider
  • Doreen Chastain-Shine, past president
  • Kathy Salisbury
  • Michael Regilio, IT chair
  • Stephen Tako, affiliate co-chair
  • Dawn Zirbel, affiliate co-chair

This marks the third time that Starczyk will lead the Santa Clarita Valley Division as president.

"It's a challenging market that will require providing unique tools, resources and educational opportunities to ensure that our members remain competitive and informed," Starczyk said. "Members will need continuing education to be able to better negotiate foreclosures and short sales," she said.

In addition to providing seminars throughout the year, the Santa Clarita Valley division is already gearing up for its 3rd Annual Education Summit to be held in October 2009.

That typically well-attended event provides deep insight into current market conditions and trends.

The Santa Clarita Valley Division also is a significant contributor to many local charities, including:

The Senior Center, the SCV Youth Project, and most recently the Sparks of Love Program, which is organized by the Los Angeles County Fire Dept. to collect toys for kids who would otherwise go without during the holiday season.

Also, more than 1,500 Realtors and real estate professionals attend the association's government affairs breakfasts which are held three times a year to keep professionals current on local issues and ballot measures.
