3rd Annual Convention, Gala

Expanding Asian American Ownership Opportunities

In its ongoing commitment to expanding the housing opportunities for Asian Americans, the Asian Real Estate Association of America will hold its 3rd annual convention and gala on Oct. 9-12 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

"The buying power of Asian Americans should not be overlooked, especially in today's challenging market," said Emily Moerdomo Fu, chair of AREAA, which intends to shed light on this important segment of prospective home buyers.

The AREAA convention, which includes workshops, seminars, keynote presentations, an International Expo and a Los Angeles property tour, is expected to attract a vast audience of real estate professionals and housing executives.

Educational sessions will include topics such as: REO, short sales, FHA, economic forecasting, mortgage products for immigrants, and Asian home buyers and international real estate opportunities.

Compared to other ethnic groups, Fu noted that Asian Americans have a high median income, the highest median down payment, the highest average home purchase price, the highest educational history, which predicts future income potential, and the lowest delinquency and foreclosure rates.

"Additionally, the Asian American population is growing at a rapid rate," she said. "For any real estate and mortgage company to thrive, the ability to tap the dynamic Asian American market can no longer be viewed as peripheral to business success."

AREAA, with 12,000 members in 38 states, is the only trade organization that represents the diverse Asian American community. It gives Asian real estate professionals a voice in the various policy and business discussions that affect the real estate market and Asian American consumers.
