Risk Management

As part of its commitment to its members, the Southland Association of REALTORS® is pleased to announce the creation of a new Risk Management Program.
Spearheaded by a committee which includes: Steve Spile who will serve as chairperson, Jeff Kahn, Kathy Mehringer and Olga Moretti, this Program is intended to help members limit their exposure to claims.
The committee hopes to assist members on multiple levels. First, it will work closely with members to assist them in avoiding the risk of claims. Second, it will provide guidance to members to minimize the adverse impact in the event a claim is raised. Third, it will assist members with their insurance needs, including procuring and understanding errors and omissions insurance, as well as setting up appropriate protocols within the individual brokerage offices.
To fulfill these goals, the committee will offer a risk management tip in each edition of REALTOR® REPORT. In addition to these regular tips, once a month there will be a detailed article regarding an issue of timely importance. Beyond the features in REALTOR® REPORT, the committee will send email blasts to members in the event of an issue which deserves immediate attention.
The committee will also present multiple seminars throughout the year. On a quarterly basis, there will be a "lunch and learn" risk management seminar for all members of SRAR who would like to attend. On a bimonthly basis, there will be a risk management forum for owners, brokers and managers to discuss the concerns which are most significant to them. Some of these will be structured as closed round-table meetings designed to offer participants an opportunity to share, in confidence, common concerns, experiences and goals. Some of these meetings will include speakers who will present topics tailored to the specific interests of owners, brokers and managers.
The SRAR website will have a link through which members can provide topics they would like the committee to address at an upcoming meeting or in a future edition of REALTOR® REPORT.
